Three ways from Chania Airport to the town — how each one works, where to find it and what the bus costs.

Chania Airport lies on the Akrotiri peninsula, about 14 km from the city, and there are three ways to cover that distance: a KTEL bus from the stop on the east side of the terminal, a taxi from the stand across from Arrivals B, or a private transfer booked before you fly. Which one suits you depends mostly on your luggage, the time you land and where exactly you are staying.
Everything below was checked against the airport’s own website and KTEL Chania–Rethymno, the company that runs the airport buses. Fares and timetables can change — the current bus timetable is valid for September 2026 only — so the official page for each option is linked underneath it.
KTEL airport bus
According to the airport, a bus service links it with Chania, Rethymno and other destinations. The buses are run by KTEL Chania–Rethymno, whose airport timetable lists a Chania Airport – Chania route every day and a separate Chania Airport – Souda – Rethymno route.

- At the bus stop across from the Departures area, on the east side of the terminal.

- €2.70 between Chania Airport and Chania, in KTEL’s timetable valid from 1 to 30 September 2026.
- How to pay
- Tickets can be bought from the bus driver. KTEL says tickets cannot be bought on the bus by credit card; cards are accepted for e-tickets on its website and at its ticket desks.
- Timetable
- In the timetable valid from 1 to 30 September 2026, buses leave the airport for Chania every day, with the first at 05:00 and the last daily departure at 00:00. One later bus runs on some nights: 01:00 on Thursday and Friday nights, 01:15 on Saturday night and 01:40 on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

- Light luggage and a stay in Chania town.
- Good to know

Taxi
If you have not booked anything, you can take a taxi at the airport. The airport says taxi service is available there and that the taxi stand is located across from the Arrivals B area.

- The airport does not publish taxi fares or payment methods. Ask the driver before you set off how the fare is charged and whether you can pay by card.

- Short trips into Chania when you have not booked ahead.
- Good to know
- Give the driver the full address of your hotel rather than just the area.
