Sangster International sits right on the shoreline at the edge of Montego Bay, close enough that the sea is the first thing you see on the way out. From the airport almost everyone turns one of two ways: west along the coast towards Negril, or east towards Falmouth, Ocho Rios and the resorts beyond.

The road is the thing to know. Jamaica’s north coast route is smooth and fast in places and narrow, winding and slow in others, so the trip takes longer than a map suggests — more so after dark or in heavy rain. Your driver meets you outside the arrivals hall with a name sign, which matters here because the hall fills quickly when several flights land together. Book with the name of your resort or villa rather than the town: along this coast the properties are spread out and many sit at the end of private side roads.
